For those of you who have a PS3 at home–-Uncharted II: Among Thieves is the Action/Adventure game of a lifetime.<br/><br/>The writing is far superior to any game ever made. The story isricha movie and the characterization is more developed than you could ever imagine in a game. The main character is witty and likable–-with a touch of smart ass intertwined. The supporting characters are well acted. Claudia Black, of Farscape fame, is tremendousChloe and Emily Rose is excellentElena. You actually see the character interventions develop their relationship –- something you don't even see in movies nowadays.<br/><br/>The action is superb. Though you have to laugh that someone hired hundreds upon hundreds of thugs to stop one man.<br/><br/>There are a few tight spots that frustrated me in the game, but the overall experience was excellent. A game that once you are done you feel good about it.<br/><br/>Of course it is only on the PS3 and it will be the best Action game of all time–-I feel sorry for those who do not have a PS3 to experience it–-but if you have a friend who has one, see if he/she will let you come over and experience one of the best console games of this generation.<br/><br/>Uncharted II:Among Thieves––10/10 stars–-awesome If this is made into a movie, the voice actors look the part and would be the best choices for the roles.
Where "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" was a wholeheartedly engaging (and novel) gaming experience, "Among Thieves" takes everything there is to love about the original and raises the bar to staggering heights.<br/><br/>To say this game is an improvement is a serious understatement. "Bigger and better" is the name of the game here. More gunfights, more bosses, more girlfriends, more characters, a more personal story, even more beautiful graphics, more stunts … it's insane. You (as Drake) don ninja black and play cat burglar in a Turkish museum, face off against a gunship from inside a collapsing hotel, fight off tanks, do battle with another attack chopper aboard a moving train, escape a derailed train before it goes over a cliff - and that's how the game opens! Three of my all-time favorite stretches of gaming come from this very game: 1. The climb through the hotel and the following trek through the war ravaged streets of Nepal 2. The train (moving in and around, clinging to the sides, and not one, but two boss battles 3. The Monastery in the Himalayas - the scope of this sequence is epic. Moving through towers, temples, cliffs and shootouts (galore!). The scenery here is absolutely gorgeous.<br/><br/>And we can't forget about the Yeti. Scary bastards.<br/><br/>The one criticism I do have is that the big bad guy (Lazarevic) is a rather lame character, and the final boss battle … well, I could've done without that. The earlier "bosses" were much more exciting.<br/><br/>But that isn't enough to keep me from coming back (again and again) to this game. It's an easy 10 for me; highly (re)playable, thrilling, occasionally frustrating, the cast is terrific (Nolan North is a legend) and it's just a purely thrill-ride piece of video game spectacle.<br/><br/>Just an incredible sense of adventure, epic in scope and my favorite current-gen game.<br/><br/>10/10

Istanbul, Borneo and Nepal. A recurring motif in the Uncharted series is the idea that magic and science are merely different ways in which an individual might attempt to explain the world. One could presume,with the virus in Drake's Fortune, that the Tree of Life was in some sense magical. We know of countless plants with remarkable pharmaceutical properties, though, and there are many more yet to be discovered. The Tree of Life found in Shambhala, perhaps, was one such example.<br/><br/>Unlike Nate, who initially believed he was searching for a giant emerald (the Cintamani Stone), Lazarevic (and Schafer) knew of legends that related the incredible regenerative power of the tree's sap. The antagonist sought the Tree of Life not for monetary reward, nor even glory, but the promise of immortality. The Guardians of Shambhala were probably once the population who created an isolated utopia, initially imbibing the young Tree of Life's narcotic, life-enhancing sap in small doses. As the tree grew larger, they became dependent on consuming greater quantities, and could no longer leave; they were stronger, effectively immortal, but utterly addicted to its vascular outpourings.<br/><br/>Based on the safe presumption that discontinuing use of the sap would be deadly, this symbiotic relationship enabled the tree to grow unchecked while protected from potential threats. The Guardians were essentially bound in servitude, compelled to defend the origin of the drug that sustained them. Isolated from outside civilisation, the primitive Guardians dressed in terrifying costumes to deter those who might have discovered Shambhala (leading, it is implied, to the myth of the Yeti), and killed those who persisted. Few players realised that every piece of plant life seen in Shambhala is in fact connected to the Tree of Life. It grew rampant with great age, its roots entwined with every part of the city. When Nate creates a chain-reaction of explosions in the confrontation with Lazarevic at the climax of Among Thieves, the tree is killed; no longer anchored to the main trunk and roots, the surrounding landscape collapses.
